Test and Tag

All workplaces in Australia must comply with the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)  legislation and must be able to demonstrate their safety work systems. Having a regular test and tag service is an important safety measure that every business should undertake to protect their employees and customers.

All Purpose Trade Solutions electricians are licensed and qualified and will have your electrical appliances and equipment checked for safety and ensure it is compliant in one visit.

How is the test and tag done?

Test and tag is a name given to the process of visually inspecting an electrical appliance for any damage. We will check the insulation, earthing, and polarity of the item to ensure its safety. Once the inspection has been completed and the item is deemed compliant and safe it will be tagged. The intervals range from 3 months for the construction industry and 5 years for office work ( if no safety switch)

By ensuring your equipment and appliances are tested, you can prevent accidents from occurring, which means you will have peace of mind your employers are protected against electrical harm and you will not have expenses relating to fixing damages or dealing with injuries.

Once your equipment has been tested and deemed safe to use, a colour tag will be attached, this tag will indicate when the inspection was carried out and when the next inspection is due. The test and tag colour guide can be found at: testandtagsupplies.com.au

The requirements and intervals for test and tag vary for individual businesses - you can find the relevant information at: worksafe.qld.gov.au

TV point installation

Most Australian households have at least one TV point connection, and this is usually located in the lounge/living room. With new house purchases, you will find this to be a standard fixture, but it's usually just one outlet if you have not had a say before the house was completed.

It's not uncommon to want to be able to watch television in other rooms of the house. This might be the case if you have children or a relative staying with you. If they have a television in their room they can watch programs that the rest of the family might not be interested in.   Our experienced electricians can install additional TV points as long as there is access in the wall cavity to run the necessary cables to your antenna and we can ensure you will receive excellent digital signal quality. Our electricians have experience with installing TV points that even if they are unable to install the cable in a wall cavity they can attach discretely on an exposed wall and get the same signal quality.

Depending on your household needs and family situation you might want TV points installed in rooms such as

  • The bedroom
  • Kids' room
  • Garage
  • Shed
  • Rumpus
  • Spare/ guest room

Tariff changes

Are your energy bills ”through the roof” are you wondering why they are so high? One reason might be the tariff (the price your pay for the energy that you use) you are currently on. Your household tariff is generally set up by your energy distributor, and in many instances, it is not the most suitable one for your household energy usage. To check where you stand with your tariff you can check your electricity bill and this information should be recorded there. Alternatively, you can give your electricity company a call and have a chat with them, they will be able to check your household usage and see if there is a more economical tariff for you.

We know that tariffs can be a tad confusing, and that is where we can help. We know how they work and can advise you and install the relevant upgrades.  Making the change could save you from paying more on your energy bills than you need to.

Tariff  classifications

  • Usage charges

Depending on the time of day or season your electricity and gas usage charges may vary. These charges are measured by cents per kilowatt-hour (c/kWh) for electricity and cents per megajoule (c/MJ) for gas.

  • Demand charges

As the name suggests, these charges are based on the demand you place on the electricity network and are listed as dollars per kilowatt ($/kW) per month.

Check your meter

Making sure you are on the right tariff for your household could reduce your energy bills, however, this will depend on your meter.

  • Basic meter - flat rate, peak tariff will apply
  • Digital meter - qualifies you for a peak and off-peak tariff
  • Smart meter - you qualify for peak, off-peak, and controlled load tariff
  • Controlled load - This is a separate meter in your meter box- with load control your energy provider can temporarily interrupt your electricity supply, this is to help manage peak demand on the network. Load control tariffs are cheaper than most other electricity tariffs.
